Gas Prices rise this weekend.

Journal News -- Those finding themselves with an empty gas tank this holiday weekend will pay a heftier price to refuel, according to web sites that gauge gas prices across Ohio.

The price of a gallon of regular gasoline will rise by 25 to 30 cents Friday, Sept. 3, along the Cincinnati-Dayton corridor, as motorists hit the road for Labor Day weekend, according to CincinnatiGasPrices.com.

Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy.com in Grand Rapids, Mich., another gas-pricing website, said many stations in the area of Butler and Warren counties raised gas prices to $2.75 a gallon Thursday.

Prices did NOT RISE here in Midland, TX for Labor Day. In fact, they are an average of 8 cents LOWER than they were on a little over a week ago on 8/30/10. And no, they did not go up over the weekend and drop back down today.

After many articles last week redicted that prices were falling, I was surprised that my local stations increased prices - but less than a dime (vs. the 25 to 30 cents mentioned above for Cincinnati).

A short drive this morning turned up no major changes. In fact, the closest station to me dropped from $2.879 to $2.839 overnight.

It boggles my mind why oil prices can't remain at one price until a "significant event" happens. Sort of like the price of other consumable goods (food, medicine, toilet paper or even your rent check...). OH that's right, it would put a lot of people out of work (speculators, investors, journalists, ....).

I live in Wood River where the refinery is and the spokesman trying to justify the hike on TV claimed they had a power outage? Apparently, it was not too bad and were again operating and pumping. Prices affected both Missouri and Illinois and I can't believe this excuse. We have had no bad storms and I believe its just greed and the price won't come down for a week or two.

I filled up last week at $2.43. Now its $2.79 and the gasoline on the commodity market has done nothing but fall. This is your standard Labor Day weekend ripoff.

I was only down a little when GasBuddy announced MI prices would be going up due to trouble at the refinery in Illinois, not down enough to make it worth topping off. I'm hoping my tank lasts till after the holiday weekend, but having to go through Customs at the Border with long waits this weekend, even shutting my engine off instead of idling, uses a lot of gas. I actually burn twice as much fuel at an hour wait in line at the Border than I did in an hour @ 70mph on the highway, and that's with shutting off the engine while waiting to move ahead.

Yes, it's a ripoff, but remember ripoffs happen to those who allow themselves to be ripped off.

No big surprise. All other indicators point to lowering prices, but not around holidays when families are trying to get together.

We should never fight tradition. Gas prices always go up around a holiday so the rich can get a little richer and vise versa for the poor.

It looks like many gas stations in Ohio are really out to screw the public this weekend. The idea of spiking prices by some 25c per gallon at one time is criminal in nature, although unfortunately it is still legal to do in this country. I have said many times in this forum that there should be some sort of a modified price control system for retail gas prices, such as how much stations could raise the price at one time or in one week.

That being said, apparently gas station operators in Central Florida (or at least the Daytona Beach area) will not be doing this. As of this evening (Friday), there has been no change at all in prices that I have noticed. Nor was there any change around the Fourth of July holiday period despite large crowds in town for the big NASCAR race at Daytona Int'l Speedway.
