Natural-Gas Vehicles Will Run Best Without Subsidies

Bloomberg -- Few areas of American governance have been as incoherent in recent decades as energy policy, which is saying something. But lately, we keep seeing reasons for optimism.

Almost miraculously, the U.S. is both reducing its greenhouse-gas emissions and becoming increasingly energy independent. As Bloomberg News recently reported, the share of U.S. energy demand met by domestic sources increased to 81 percent through the first 10 months of 2011 -- the highest level in 20 years -- and emissions are expected to decline 12 percent by 2020.

A major factor in both trends is increased use of natural gas, a cleaner-burning fossil fuel now being extracted in abundance across the country. Hydraulic fracturing, a new production technology also known as fracking, has helped push prices for the fuel...

What a shame. Just like the boxes or cases or pallets of food I see go to waste today or anything else, what a shame. So many that could use it all.

No real savings!!

We are seeing some development in fuel on private land but not on Federal land. Also consumers our buying less gas due to high prices. I don't believe in green house gas or the carbon credit scam.

If it is worthwhile, and I believe that Natural Gas is, it will likely succeed within the market. Allow market forces to work.

There are no subsidies for any fossil fuels at this time (and there never have been), only tax credits which are incentives to invest in equipment, jobs and to explore and increase production. Tax credits are available to a multitude of industries and sectors. Apple gets tax credits as well. Every tax payer who owns a home gets a tax credit of some sort (i.e. property tax credit, mortgage interest, etc). Unfortunately, even people who do not work or pay taxes get tax credits as well.
